Design Summary:
Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha’s premier botanical garden, faced challenges in maintaining and rejuvenating its plant collections due to the limitations of several aging high tunnels, which were hardly optimal for year-round operations. In pursuit of an upgrade to their behind-the-scenes production facilities, they selected Ceres Greenhouse Solutions for their new project. Working in close collaboration with Lauritzen Gardens’ architects, Ceres designed four standard greenhouses, (custom connected via corridor) tailored to be production workhorses growing plants to be replanted in the botanic garden. The two greenhouses closest to the park’s walking paths were designed with glass glazing on the south-facing walls, while the other two production greenhouses have polycarbonate glazing. These state-of-the-art structures were not only designed to meet current needs but were also engineered with flexibility in mind, allowing for future modifications to accommodate the evolving demands of the gardens. The greenhouses are home to a variety of flowers including; mums, pointsettias and orchids.
