Ceres Greenhouse Solutions is a fast growing Boulder, CO based company. Founded in 2011 by Dr. Marc Plinke, we have a passion for sustainable design in the greenhouse industry. We are a mission driven team, focused on “Designing for a Better Future”. Our team comes together with a wide range of skills and past work experiences and we believe that we can have a positive impact on food and plant production. Project Engineer

Role Responsibilities

Design & Engineering Support

  • MEP Coordination: Collaborate with engineers to review internal coordination documents and develop a comprehensive MEP design set.
  • Architectural Integration: Provide engineering support during architectural design phases to ensure seamless integration of MEP requirements.
  • Drawing Reviews: Coordinate and redline MEP drawings (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), ensuring accuracy and integration with the overall system designs.

Technical Analysis & Equipment Specification

  • Modeling & Load Calculations: Utilize software such as OpenStudio, TraneTrace, or HAP to calculate HVAC process loads and optimize system performance.
  • Equipment Specification: Recommend and specify mechanical equipment (e.g., hydronic geothermal, DX HVAC, dehumidification, water treatment) based on project requirements.
  • Advanced Agricultural Systems: Assist in the design of hydroponics, aeroponics, CO₂ dosing and evacuation, and lighting equipment for specialized agricultural facilities.
  • Energy & Efficiency: Employ knowledge of EnergyPlus or similar tools to analyze system energy usage and optimize system performance.

Project Management & Construction Oversight

  • Project Coordination: Support both integrated systems projects and legacy (existing) projects by providing remote assistance and occasional on-site coordination.
  • Construction Oversight: Oversee aspects of construction to ensure MEP elements are installed correctly, complying with design documents and safety standards.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams regarding project timelines, mechanical systems, and any required adjustments.
  • Multitasking & Flexibility: Manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced environment, adapting to evolving project needs.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Sales Support: Provide technical expertise during the sales process by discussing mechanical systems, design concepts, and project feasibility with potential clients.
  • Other Tasks: Perform additional tasks as assigned by management to support overall project and company objectives.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering, or a related field. (Engineering license is not required.)
  • 3-5 years of experience with MEP projects, including commercial construction projects (typically $5 million+).
  • Comprehensive CAD Proficiency: Demonstrate understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing CAD drawings, ensuring accurate updates and revisions.
  • Prior Construction Experience with steel structures and glazing materials (preferably in greenhouse environments) is highly desirable.

Technical Expertise

  • HVAC-D climate control system design and installation experience.
  • Familiarity with industrial/chemical plant design and agricultural facility design is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Revit, BIM360, CAD and modeling software, Microsoft 365 and/or Google Suite)(OpenStudio, TraneTrace, HAP)

The total compensation for this role is $80,000 – $95,000 annually, composed of base pay and bonus.

Electrical Designer Drafter- HVAC Agriculture Automation

Role Responsibilities

  • Participation in Design Meetings – Engage in discussions with engineering and project teams to verify system designs meet quality standards and address customer requirements.
  • Electrical Drawings for Building Automation – Develop detailed electrical drawings of building automation control systems, ensuring all aspects align with the project scope.
  • Standardized Drawing Packages – Work closely with the engineering team to create consistent, standardized drawing packages for our SunSense automation systems.
  • CAD Drafting & Detailing – Utilize CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, Visio) to produce precise schematics, wiring diagrams, and component layouts for customer approval and fabrication.
  • Drawing Package Assembly – Combine all relevant documents—such as BOMs, component specifications, and other essential details—into cohesive drawing packages for both internal review and customer acceptance.
  • Facility Control Sets – Review internal coordination documents to compile comprehensive facility control sets, ensuring clarity and completeness for permitting and construction.
  • Optimization of MEP & System Electrical Design – Collaborate with project teams to enhance design efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and overall system functionality.
  • Documentation Management – Maintain and organize all engineering documentation within BIM360 to facilitate easy reference and compliance tracking.
  • Cross-Department Coordination – Liaise with Purchasing, Planning, and the Panel Shop to discuss specification requirements, manufacturability concerns, and potential product or design changes.
  • Construction & Installation Support – Prepare and/or review Installation, Operations, and Maintenance manuals to guide construction and installation teams. Provide ongoing communication to address design or implementation issues.
  • Customer and Team Communications – Offer effective communication to both internal teams and external stakeholders throughout the system development phases, ensuring alignment and timely problem-solving.
  • Collaboration & Problem-Solving – Work closely with engineers and other stakeholders to identify challenges and devise practical, efficient solutions.

 

Essential Experience and Skills:

  • 4+ years of experience in electrical drafting and design, ideally with exposure to controls or building automation systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, Visio) and strong understanding of electrical schematics and building drawings.
  • Familiarity with HVAC controls, DDC, or building automation systems (Niagara, SkySpark, etc.) is a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment and associated control strategies is beneficial.
  • Technical HVAC, Building Control Systems, and DDC Controls certifications (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, coordinate with multiple trades, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills; comfortable interfacing with customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities; capable of maintaining schedules and budgets.
  • Willingness to travel 10%–25% (domestic & international) as needed to support team efforts.
  • An engineering license is not required, but must demonstrate solid technical proficiency in electrical drafting.

 

Total Compensation: US$60,000- US$75,000 annual salary composed of base pay and bonus & based on experience
