In the final video of our series at KWS Seeds, Josh Holleb takes us inside the facility’s vernalization chamber. Sugarbeet is a biennial crop that requires an extended cold period before it will flower and produce seed. The chamber recreates those winter conditions indoors, allowing KWS researchers to induce flowering on a set schedule rather than waiting on the seasons and giving the breeding program more control over each cycle.
