Salt Farm Flowers has been operating its Ceres commercial greenhouse for nearly a decade, supporting a thriving, full-service “field-to-vase” cut flower operation. While the farm produces flowers outdoors from spring through fall, the greenhouse is utilized year-round to ensure consistent production.
Currently, in mid-January, the greenhouse is housing trays of scented geraniums that have been propagated in floating plug trays. During the colder months, the space is also used to overwinter ferns and rosemary.
Beginning in the first week of March, crates are succession-planted with double lilies, which require approximately 90 to 100 days to bloom. Lisianthus is planted directly into the ground, with staggered varieties selected to ensure a continuous bloom period. Harvest typically begins in June and continues through early August, with a second flush in September.

In the fall, garden fabric is removed and beds are amended with compost and organic granular fertilizer. The greenhouse beds are then left to rest during January and February to help prevent pest pressure. Watering resumes in February in preparation for March plantings, setting the stage for a productive growing season.
