DSC05077.jpgGrow Up! …And maintain some whimsical fun with this colorful, aromatic, self-watering vertical garden made out of recycled soda bottles. There’s several variations of how to build this… stringing together several columns of bottles or creating a simple one. In the PDF below we show you how to string several together. In effect this system turned eight vertical feet of unused corner space in one of our passive solar greenhouses into an bountiful, abundant garden, filled with basil and allysium. In other words, we turned 1 sq ft into about 8 sq ft of gardening space. Lots of uses: hang on the corner outside for a ‘rain-chain’ type planter, or on the back of a greenhouse North wall, or in the kitchen window for easy to access herbs! Other advantages: You can add a very simple drip system, using an aquarium pump for automatic watering. The water will percolate down through the bottles. Oh, almost forgot to mention… fun to build! It’s a great project for kids. Download this PDF for DIY instructions.
