Get Started! Jump start tomatoes with cloning

clones 2_edited.JPGIt’s the time of year for starts. This year we learned a great technique for the impatient gardener… cloning!

It’s a very simple system : grown branches of many plants (tomatoes are the most common) will re-root from grown branches. The trickiest part is having access to a mature tomato plant (knowing a greenhouse gardener or small farmer is handy). Once you have stems – any length as long as they have new growth – stick in some water. Add a pump so the water is well aerated. You can also add liquid nutrients. We used a system called Oxyclone, available here: http://www.oxyclone.com/. Please let us know if you find others.
